Fly Fishing in Spain

The Pyrenees of Aragon ...

With or without Ivan Tarin

Let me introduce Ivan  (and a decent trout)

Fish species:, You will mostly fish dry flies on mountain streams, brown trout. Sometimes you will meet the famous "zebra" trout, and you may be introduced to the now famous "perdigon" Spanish nymph. Higher stretches and altitude lakes offer nice brookies (salvelinus), and some lower stretches trophy rainbows.

Over the years, with his organization "Salvelinus", Ivan Tarin has become the new king of Aragon. A much deserved success and if you want me to include in your trip a few days with them I will always be happy. But if you prefer something more classic, simpler and less expensive like just a night at a nice small mountain hotel and a guided day to get started, and simply fish on your own I'll be also very happy to offer this great alternative. Even if you prefer to do it fully 'self guided' following my directions and instructions. Aragon as on pictures below, offers breathtaking landscapes, pristine streams, rich fauna, old stone villages, a feel of history and a heart touching character.

Pamplona

Pamplona is actually in Navarre, but can be a good start to your trip. There is an airport in Pamplona with flights from the major other Spanish airports. You can spend there your first or last night.  Pamplona needs no introduction among the readers of Hemingway, and the lovers of the San Fermines fiestas...

The view from your hotel room in Pamplona

The famous café Iruña, one of the best.....  breakfast place ! in the world...

All the region is a highlight stage on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela

A nice village "cutting" the road between Pamplona & our fishing spots of Aragon.

Mountain landscapes....

The Pyrenees of Aragon, & (small on the right), a medieval castle defending the valley

unspoiled valleys

fly fishermen walking back to the cars parked at the shepherd's shelter

and driving down back to the lodge at the end of the day...

Rich fauna....

Marmots, chamois & large birds of prey can be observed with binoculars...

while a weird vulture, is taking a rest on a mountain road !

Hopefully not many cars take this road, and ours are often "off road"...

Stunning streams & crystal clear waters...

.

Ivan is proud to show you these wonderful spots

Old stones & rich culture...

Each of these small mountain villages has an old church...

and a picturesque old centre to visit

sometimes with a nice bar or restaurant

This excellent Spanish style cheese cake (tarta de queso), with a topping of mountain berries, was found  in a village bar, near one of these churches...

Great Spanish life & gastronomia...

The bar at the lodge is the place for night caps & never ending fishing controversies...

Grand Style picnics are served in the mountain to "cut" the fishing day

the food is sometimes cooked on open fires of traditional country houses

while girls can enjoy a bit of "tapas crawling"...

... and shopping in the very attractive neighbour town of Jaca
